Description An absolutely drop dead gorgeous original 1950’s strapless gown in cascading layers of the palest apricot tulle and fine lace. This is definitely one of the loveliest gowns I have ever listed. What a statement this would make at the upcoming prom season – any girl wearing this creation would definitely be the belle of the ball ! It is also lovely enough to be worn as a wedding dress – definitely worthy of a very special occasion. Maker’s label reads “Rappi”. I have sold several vintage gowns with this US label and all have been of distinctive quality and construction. They truly stand out among the party and prom gowns produced during this era. Note the details on this stunning dress – the (boned) taffeta bodice with lace overlay trimmed in aurora borealis sequins, the multiple layers of fine mesh tulle on the incredibly full twirling skirt, and especially the skirt lace overlay with rear treatment. There are an amazing five layers to this skirt – a lining of crisp apricot satin acetate, three middle layers of pale apricot tulle, topped with the heavy cape overlay trimmed with swirling tulle ribbon and sequins. When this dress catches the light, the sequins are iridescent. The dress closes down the rear with a hidden metal zipper and fastener. The entire dress is lined in matching pale apricot satin. The dress is photographed using a crinoline to show the skirt to full advantage – the crinoline is not included. No vintage size label, so please see measurements below for a proper fit. This is a small size that would likely best fit a modern size 2 or 4. It is virtually pristine. The tulle still retains much of its original crispness and the accordion pleats still lie beautifully. No stains and underarms are clean. Amazingly, I found no tears on the outer tulle and no obvious breaks in the lace. The interior is also crisp and clean with no significant defects to note.
