Reminiscent of Calder or the wonderful jewelry of Art Smith, these artist made sterling silver earrings by Mary Ann Scherr are six cascading triangles appearing like airplanes or abstract birds in flight. The top and bottom are defined with a circle. The earrings bring to mind a Calder mobile. The parts move freely as you navigate the day for that wonderful feeling of being dressed with jewelry yet are extremely light in weight, as if you had butterfly wings on your ears. Mary Ann Scherr had a fascinating career. Her studio was in Akron, Ohio. She attended Cleveland Institute of the Arts until World War 11 broke out and then went to work as a cartographer and illustrator. Once the war ended she designed interior accessories for the Ford Motor Company. Next she opened her studio with her husband in Akron. How’s that for diversity? The artist died in 2016. The earrings are in excellent condition. They are 2 1/2 inches long. Width 1/14 in. Weight 3.8 grams each
